Great Thoughts

10+1 things to learn from Bill Gates

Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically- correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.

Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it. (A good way to start when addressing to teens. No more "I am a victim" shit. Life was never going to be fair. Some will get a headstart, while some will always stay rich, while some will have a broken home to contend with. You play with the cards you are dealt with. Real advantage is not the cards you hold but the mindset you have.)
Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.(True, no touchy-feely shit cause that ain't gonna cut it. Only you can make yourself feel OK about yourself, no one else can validate you. The sooner you learn that only your two feet can make you stand, the sooner you will get over complaining over the lack of crutches and hand rails.)
Rule 3. You will not make US$60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.(Not so much a problem in Asia, but more so in Western developed nations where teens tend to drop out and not finish high school. There is nothing spectacular about universities or higher degrees except that it tells the world you can read, write and memorise about a small topic. One should aim for a degree for the fact that it opens up a plethora of options for one's future.)
Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.
Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a different word for burger flipping - they called it opportunity.(Never look down on anyone's job or based your perception of someone on the job they hold. Every job is an opportunity to prove yourself that you can do better. Sooner or later, someone will notice you.)
Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parent's fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.(Nobody owes you a living. Not even your parents. If they provide for you - good; if they don't - too bad, grow up already. Even investors in stocks sometimes bitch about the markets, again the markets do not owe investors a living, it is not there to guarantee your livelihood.)
Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they now are. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites your parent's generation created, try delousing the closet in your own room.
Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This does not bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life. (A hard warning but relatively true. Work life is tough and there are many things they won't and can't teach you which you need to be prepared for in order to survive well. How to teach street-smarts?)
Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.
Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.
Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.(Nice one Bill, my advice to all, girls at different age groups will look for very different type of guys. The teenage girls, girls in the first 2-3 years of working life, girls about to hit 30 and ladies past 35. Know this causal relationships, especially if you are a nerd in high school.)

爱得太迟

As time pass by and it is getting year end soon. Have you forgotten things that you dream of doing? There are little things in life that we have overlooked because we focus too much of the future instead of the present. These are words which can bring great thoughts and hope i am translating it right ;)
(* Seeing dad everyday and would like to kiss him. And i notice he has more wrinkles)日夜做见爸爸刚好想呻 却霎眼看出他多了皱纹
(* Now realised his hectic schedule and I am getting worried about him.)而他的苍老感 是从来未觉太内疚担心
(* The sad thing is care too late. If you still have love, please wait no more)最心痛是 爱得太迟 有些心意 不可等某个日子
(* Now need to put more effort, get rid of selfish-ness and get use to pressure)盲目地发奋 忙忙忙其实自私 梦中也习惯有压力要我得知
(* Show you care at the right time and once it is late, it will become history)最可怕是 爱需要及时只差一秒 心声都已变历史 忙极亦放肆 见我爱的见双至 要抱要吻怎麼也好 偏要推说要等一下次
Look into the hidden meaning and remember live with what we have present. Today is all you need to make a brighter future. Think about it. Cheers

原来

almost finish reading my 5th book of the year..
A great book to look for this month is "The Monk who Sold his Ferrari". This book does not only give me a pleasure to read it but it also turn out to be my 'mentor'.
It really helps and inspire me to do what I want. Setting my goal...reschedule my time for something more important other than work. But of course, i need to cultivate the right habit in order to get it works.
Basically what i've learnt is that Life is Short..don't just plan for tomorrow...most importantly plan early of the day..and get things working out of it.

祝我生日快乐

The due date is here...it is getting nearer...that is the day when you get a year older. hmmm...It is also the time I would like to reflect back what had happened a year ago..
Things have probably changed...a big turn over i could say. Now i see things differently, think differently and easy do things differently...When i looked back to see the up(s) and down(s) that i have gone through..it finally pays...
Very satisfied with the accomplishment made ...and i find the return is rewarding...and it happens in this auspicious month of September. Would also like to thank those people out there who have been giving me enough support and help to made my dreams come true..
Things are moving faster nowadays...and i have set my goal and dream in this coming years. May things go well...and let get things started...

一个像夏天,一个像秋天

Not a very good sunday i could say...woke up early and still got to go back to this place called "O"...still got some un-finished work to do.

I was sitting in this boring room called "S" where i need to get my program to work. It is very un-consistence though..as the things does not seems to work since the beginning of the day...strangely...after 1.5 hour of my patience has been taken away..it finally...yes finally run smoothly...within this 1.5hr, i've been hoping it will get to running quickly...and i did pray indeed...and it works...guess life after all is a bed of roses...you have thorns to get rid of before you could enjoy the beauty of it...though i don't really like roses..but who cares..whether you like it or not..this just happen..and I could say, i see it differently....so how about you people out there? you feeling you are the unlucky one? come on ..chill out...just look over your shoulder..there are 'more' behind you. Let's get the fun rolling....when it is the time to enjoy..make it fullest...when it comes to hard time...let share it with your buddy...guess they could give a great help after all.......

千里之外

Talking about what lies in front of you in my last blog, i have something in mind to talk about this week.People have dream and people has things they plan to do. Although many people plan for something in the coming future, but it does not seems to work in the end. I have once heard a Hong Kong artist said before that she(Chu Yan if you know who is she) does not like to make plan. Because to her, plan normally does not work. How true is that depends on individual. Some like to do things instantly while some would take a while to fulfill their plan. What lies in front of us seems to be a thousand miles away, but how much effort do we put to achieve it?Was talking to a friend the other day through MSN where she is planning for a vacation this year end with her friends. She PLANS for it, but how well does it go if her friends do not make the same effort to get it comes true?In my opinion, planning is good only if we could prepare ourselves for it. And if it involves others people, then they should share the same thoughts to get it done. That is why we said "Birds of feather flocks together". We plan and we take action...not just like NATO (not the one u are thinking but No Action Talk Only).Normally, the EXCITEMENT comes from the preparation and the SATISFACTION comes from achieving it. You think about it ...how true is it...
- No matter how far things is, effort and determination are the core feature to achieve it-
May the forces be with us...

手放开

hmm...a hectic week i guess...but just got used to it.

Firstly, rushing over the weekends....a long break from programming and now back on it again.
And problem starting to pop up, my desktop PC's motherboard finally asking for a BREAK! Making me stunned in the middle of the night to find ways to fix it. Eventually, i got something else to retrieve my data.

Next, started to do some stuff on my 4 years old Fujitsu notebook...unfortunately, it start to change colour automatically though i didn't realise it has such features when i first bought it. Anyhow, i still have to bear with it until i got some extra cash to resolve all these obstacles.
Some people might call it a bad luck, but for me it is just more than LUCK. I got a term for it though.. it is called WEAR n TEAR..hahaha....like what most people said IF OLD DON'T GO WHEN CAN GET NEW ONE..:-P

So it is time to let go the past...and let see what lies in front of us...

忘不了

Looking back at the title of my blog for this week, it is very clear that there are things in life that is hard to forget. Though some might say, just move forward and never look back. But it is only a saying, no one will ever achieve that. It is good sometimes to take a break and look what have been going "past" you.

Memories keep people appreciate what they have. Some are good and some are best to be left forgotten. But having to experience it is really part and parcel of life.
These are little little things that make me who i am...

Have you ever tried to use the public phone(the coin version) when there are no handphone around?Have you ever taken the wrong bus to a place where you never expected to be and taking an adventure to find your way back without relying on your car?Have you ever soaked under the rain holding an umbrella while waiting for the right bus to take?Have you ever walked 8km home from your alma mater just to save some penny for your favourite toy?Have you ever been in a class which is VOTED to be the noisiest class by all the staff in school?Have you ever eaten the 20cents Mamee pack that was once your favourite ?

These are some of the sweet memories in life that I will never forget. If you have things that need to be done, 'just do it' as promoted by one of our well-known shoe's brand. It is time to act and not just wait.
